Tropical Storm Bonnie Heads Into Gulf of Mexico

From the Bahamas to the beaches of Florida Tropical Storm Bonnie is working its way towards the gulf. The National Hurricane Center says Bonnie may landfall in Florida with top winds of around 64 kilometers per hour. Residents stumped sandbags and tied down boats as the winds picked up.

“We’re remodelling our new house and I’d hate for something to happen” one south Florida resident said as she prepares for the coming of the storm.

The storm is headed towards south Flodira towards the gulf of Mexico where it is expected to strenghten. It is expected to pass by the area where the massive BP oil spill is by Sunday. Engineers and rig workers are evacuating ahead of the storm. So far Bonnie produced some heavy rain and high surf but little else. There are no reports of damage or injuries and surfers don’t seem to mind the kind of surf that Bonnie is giving them.
