Guatemala Sinkhole
Guatemala Sinkhole. At first glance the images below look like they were Photoshopped but these are real ones. This large and deep depression just suddenly appeared in the middle of Guatemala City after the tropical storm Agatha. This ‘sinkhole” appeared yesterday, May 30th in a street intersection located in Zone 2 of Ciudad de Guatemala. What could have caused this kind of hole? Here is one explanation from Gizmodo:
A sinkhole is a natural depression caused by the removal of underground soil by water. This process can happen slowly, but sometimes the land just cracks open. In this case, it happened suddenly. The cause: Massive underground water torrents created by tropical storm Agatha.
This is not the first time that a sinkhole appeared in a place; a sinkhole has appeared in Florida but it is not as deep and sudden as the one that has just appeared in Guatemala.
