Christina Perri’s Jar Of Hearts
Stardom is elusive and one needs to have a lot of talent, determination, and connections to achieve it. But there are times when stardom just falls on someone who doesn’t expect to be given a chance to have a shot at it, this is what happened to Christina Perri, the sister of ex-Shinedown/Silvertide guitarist Nick Perri. Two weeks ago Christina was an unknown and unheard of artist working as a waitress at Melrose Place Cafe. But then a friend managed to get her demo tape into the hands of Stacey Tookey, a So You Think You Can Dance choreographer. Tookey listened to the demo and fell in love with the song which is entitled Jar of Hearts. Tookey was so taken by the song that she asked Perri to record a professional version of Jar of Hearts and used it for the Billy Bell-Kathryn McCormick “SYTYCD” routine on June 30. People noticed the song and it became an immediate hit. It became a hit in the charts even if it was not not distributed by a major label. It hit number 13 on iTunes, number 23 on Billboard Hot Digital Songs, number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 54 on Canada’s single chart, number 10 on Amazon’s digital singles chart, and number 2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers countdown. And to think that there was virtually no promotion for the song except the performance of Christina Perri on SYTYCD.To date, the single has sold more than 100,000 copies.

“It doesn’t really feel real yet. It’s been a whirlwind, for like 17 days, I keep pinching myself. I don’t want to sleep because I’m afraid I’m going to wake up or something. But it is real, and ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ has just changed my whole life,” Christina Perri later told OnTheRedCarpet.com.

I saw the show and noticed the song, which is unusual for me as i don’t pay attention to pop music. The poetry of the song as well as the melody are undeniable. I am so happy to see a talented west hollywoodite get touched by the wand of the fame fairy! Congratulations Christina, just keep being yourself!
