Justin Denison, SVP of Mobile Product Development, talks about the Infinity Flex Display of a folding smartphone during the keynote address of the Samsung Developer Conference, in San Francisco, Calif., on November 7, 2018.
To solve the first issue, Samsung designed new screen materials, including a flexible OLED layer and backplane, that are then layered beneath an ultra thin polarizer, a new shock-absorbent film, and a more durable (and flexible) polymer cover window on top.
With regard to the tomorrow's Developer Conference, Samsung has not confirmed the existence of the Galaxy F, or indeed when it will reveal the device, but it will more than likely happen during the keynote address being given by Samsung CEO DJ Koh.
Samsung today finally showed off its foldable phone: a device that can convert from a handset to a mini tablet through the use of two displays.
"It's an exciting concept and we expect to see foldable products from several Android manufacturers", he said. The company's prototype device also has a screen on one of its outer faces for use when the full-size internal display isn't needed or practical.
All of this is to say that the "support" Android is offering for foldables as of right now appears to be mainly guidance in the form of steering developers toward the screen continuity feature that post mentions above.
Apple cancelled the additional production of iPhone XR due to poor demand
It's possible iPhone XR demand isn't meeting Apple's expectations , but exactly the reason that's happening is hard to determine. Apple reportedly told three different suppliers to reduce or completely eliminate production lines for the device.
"We've already had squeezable, swivel, clamshell and even foldable phones", commented IDC's Marta Pinto.
Although there is no official information about the smartphone's release, but it is expected that Samsung may unveil the smartphone at the Samsung Developer Conference, 2018.
The South Korean tech giant is among a handful of firms that have flagged foldable phones as a coming to market soon.
Denison on stage also showcased a brand new Samsung smartphone which utilises the Infinity Flex technology.
If leaks are true, the Snapdragon 845 will be powering the foldable phone, paired with with 4 or 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Rumours suggest Samsung could place a price of over £1,300 on this new phone.
