Moon also said Kim would try to visit Seoul sometime this year.

Kim and Moon embraced at Pyongyang's worldwide airport - where the North Korean leader had supervised missile launches previous year as tensions mounted. "It's not too much to say that it's Moon's efforts that arranged a historic North Korea-US summit". As Inter-Korean exchanges pick up speed, a key goal for Moon will be to sell the rapid rapprochement to his own people, with many remaining sceptical of pandering to a brutal dictator.

South Korean Defense Minister Song Young-moo and North Korea's No Kwang-chol also agreed to stop military flights in the vicinity of the demarcation line.

He said that "Kim Jong-un has agreed to allow Nuclear inspections, subject to final negotiations, and to permanently dismantle a test site and launch pad in the presence of worldwide experts".

In their third summit, Kim and Moon also laid out plans to draw down forces along their heavily fortified border and announced an agreement for their athletes to compete as a single team at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and to submit a joint bid to host the games in 2032.

"It's very much calmed down", added Trump, who a year ago engaged in a war of rhetoric with Kim in which he threatened to destroy North Korea.

On Twitter, President Donald Trump called these developments "very exciting".

It also led to rapid improvement in the North's long-strained ties with China.

All these point to an ordinary leader of an ordinary nation.

The announcement comes after the leaders of North and South Korea signed a joint statement on inter-Korean relations following their landmark summit today in Pyongyang, which reaffirmed their aims of working towards peace.
