"This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday", Browns general manager John Dorsey said.

According to a tweet from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Gordon hurt his hamstring at a promotional shoot, not at practice, per a source.

The Cleveland Browns announced they will be releasing Josh Gordon Monday, but the future release date may have been a play to entice teams into trading for the receiver. For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in. "We wish Josh well". He led the league with 1,646 receiving yards on 87 receptions in 2013, his second year as a pro, but then played just 10 games over the next four seasons while serving multiple suspensions resulting from violations of the NFL's substance abuse policy.

A trade could happen before Gordon is released.

Gordon missed the majority of training camp, taking time to make a concerted effort to improve his mental and physical health.

Additionally, Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports that Gordon showed up late to the facility on Saturday and was described as "not himself", which the Browns believed was a sign of a potential relapse. He reunited with the club August 18. He caught a 17-yard touchdown pass in the Browns' season-opening 21-21 tie against the Steelers last weekend.

Browns head coach Hue Jackson had said in mid August that he never lost trust in Gordon.
