When police arrived, Honeycutt shot at police who shot back.

A family member on Saturday confirmed to KABC that Honeycutt had died. He was 27 years old. After only suiting up 24 games in two combined years, Tyler continued his basketball career overseas, winning the elusive EuroBasket championship with Russian club BC Khimki.

Police responded to reports of a man with a gun call in the 4900 block of Tyrone Avenue a 5 p.m. Friday and the man fired at officers, who returned fire, but it was unclear whether the man was hit, police said.

Honeycutt then barricaded himself in his home while officers waited diligently for any sign of self-defeat or retaliation.

After a prolonged standoff, SWAT teams entered the house early on Saturday morning and found the suspect "unresponsive".

The man, who has not been identified, was reportedly behaving erratically when his mother called the police for assistance with him late Friday afternoon, according to ABC 7.

According to LAPD.it doesn't appear as if Honeycutt was struck by any gunfire in the shootout, but "appears to have sustained injures consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound".

LAPD's Force Investigation Division is now working on its investigation at the scene.

Honeycutt, a standout high school star in California, most recently played for Russia's Khimki in the 2017-18 season.

The Kings traded Honeycutt to the Houston Rockets in 2013. He also had stints with Israeli team Ironi Nahariya and in Turkey with Anadolu Efes.
