Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, spoke out Monday against President Donald Trump's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy and its defenders.

Since children can not be sent to the facilities where their parents are held, they are separated.

He tweeted: "We don't want what is happening with immigration in Europe to happen with us!" "Not on my watch".

In recent years, we've heard a lot of the argument that "If we don't have borders, we don't have a country".

On Capitol Hill, Republicans joined Democrats in calling for an end to the separations.

Amid a surge of unlawful migration from Central America to the United States in 2014, the Obama administration considered many plans to deter illegal border crossings, including separating parents and children.

She and senator Jeff Flake of Arizona have sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar demanding more information about the new "zero-tolerance" policy.

"We will not apologize for the job we do or for the job law enforcement does for doing the job that the American people expect us to do", she said in an appearance before the National Sheriffs' Association in New Orleans.

U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse (R) has issued a statement regarding the ongoing political debate about ICE agents separating children from their families.

In a statement to CNN, Melania Trump's spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said, "Mrs. Trump hates to see children separated from their families and hopes both sides of the aisle can finally come together to achieve successful immigration reform".

"The children can be taken care of quickly, beautifully, and immediately", President Trump said Friday.

Trump asserted Monday that children "are being used by some of the worst criminals on earth" as a way to enter the United States.

In a Father's Day demonstration on Sunday, seven Democrat members of Congress from NY and New Jersey joined hundreds of protesters outside an immigration detention facility in New Jersey to protest the separations. He was speaking at the White House while announcing an unrelated policy.

"The permanent separation is the biggest abomination", he said. Bush explained why the White House's zero tolerance policy is "cruel", "immoral", and "breaks her heart".

The issue is causing a growing political storm for the Trump administration.

Trump has repeatedly, incorrectly blamed Democrats in Congress for the policy.

"The more and more I learn about it, the more and more mad and sad I become", said Julio Acosta, a volunteer with Families Belong Together. Tough action is needed to fight illegal immigration, he declared and the U.S. I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our worldwide boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel.

Senator Graham of SC, a longtime Trump ally and golf partner, said on CNN on Friday (June 15), that "President Trump could stop this policy with a phone call".

Now facing a new surge of illegal immigration, the Trump administration chose to turn to the criminal penalties to punish border-breakers.

Democrat Adam Schiff said the government was "using the grief, the tears, the pain of these kids as mortar to build our wall".
