Trump Broke Out a Throwback Lie About Firing Comey

Rather than muddy the issue, Trump continues to display a pattern of obstruction, which includes cooking up phony excuses for firing Comey and, as he did in the Thursday morning tweet, trying to edit out incriminating statements. "The Corrupt Mainstream Media loves to keep pushing that narrative, but they know it is not true!" he added.

As a reminder, when he first announced the firing, Trump claimed it was on a recommendation from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein-whom he said in the Holt interview was respected by everyone, but, now that the investigation has progressed, regularly attacks and threatens to fire.

Two days after firing James B. Comey as Federal Bureau of Investigation director, Trump told NBC News" Lester Holt: "And, in fact, when I chose to just do it, I said to myself, I said: "You know, this Russian Federation thing with Trump and Russian Federation is a made-up story". In this memo, McCabe, who was sacked by Trump in March, described a conversation last May with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about a memo Rosenstein was drafting about Comey's mismanagement of the F.B.I.

But in the meeting at the Justice Department, Mr. Rosenstein added a new detail: He said the president had originally asked him to reference Russian Federation in his memo, the people familiar with the conversation said.

Rosenstein's memo took aim at Comey for his handling of the investigation into Clinton's use of a private email server while secretary of state.

Chelsea owner Abramovich granted Israeli citizenship
Abramovich owns Chelsea, but the day-to-day running of the football side of the club is overseen by director Marina Granovskaia. Putin repeatedly urged Abramovich to stay on as governor while he was already living between Russian Federation and Britain.

In the confidential memo, McCabe described a conversation he had with the deputy attorney general at the Department of Justice, in which the pair discussed another memo criticising Comey, according to a source quoted by The Associated Press on Wednesday. Those aides surely will have been interviewed by the time special counsel Robert S. Mueller III completes his reports. McCabe asserts that Comey knew he authorized the media disclosure, and Comey claims otherwise. Comey's firing is one part of Mueller's inquiries into whether Trump tried to obstruct the investigation.

Let me take you back to early May 2017.

He played clips of MSNBC's Chris Matthews, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) and New York Times journalist Michael Schmidt reacting to the news of the memo, saying that their reporting was full of "lies, hysteria and breathless reporting of so-called news".

Giuliani himself bragged on Fox News that he had an advance warning from the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the Comey letter to Congress. Still, one consideration lingers: It takes an incredible level of shamelessness to say something on national TV, then act like it never happened.

But even though his talking point had just been debunked live on national television, Lee forged ahead with insisting that Comey's firing was really about the Clinton email investigation.
