The 26th annual National Association of Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is set for Saturday, May 12. Nonperishable food donations can also be dropped off at participating post offices.

Please be generous and leave a bag of non-perishable food donations by your mailbox for your letter carrier.

The Northeast Iowa Food Bank provides food and grocery products to many nonprofit organizations and programs that assist the hungry and to individuals who need food assistance. "We're asking residents for their support to help make this another successful year".

Laurie Chavez, Community Food Project Manager said, "The need is so big in the Rio Grande Valley, that of course we want to surpass our poundage from a year ago".

According to statistics found on the National Association of Letter Carriers website in 2015, postal carriers collected more than 70 million pounds of food nationally. Hunger affects about 50 million people around the country, including millions of children, senior citizens and veterans.

Carriers will bring the food to local food banks, pantries or shelters.
