Hamilton has designs on Miami layout

Reigning Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton is not a fan of the proposed layout for the Miami Grand Prix.

With 55 minutes remaining in the session, Ricciardo lost the rear of his auto on the entry to Turn 4, causing his Red Bull to bolt to the left as he tried to correct it.

Bottas recovered quickly to put himself at the top of the timesheet after the first 30 minutes, with Hamilton and Vettel hot on his heels.

He was told to stop the auto but had enough momentum to reach Turn 13 and roll downhill into the pit lane and return to the garage, but did not rejoin the session.

Using the soft tyre - the second fastest of the three compounds on offer this weekend - Bottas hooked up an impressive lap with big margins over Hamilton in sectors two and three.

The Finn's flyer of one minute and 18.148 seconds enabled him to finish nearly of nine-tenths of a second clear of Hamilton with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel third.

The session was marked by a fair number of clumsy spins and visits to the gravel trap for many drivers who appeared to caught out by the lack of grip of Pirelli's tyres.

In free practice one, Williams deployed fan favorite and test driver Robert Kubica in Sergey Sirotkin's place, allowing the Pole his first participation in a Grand Prix weekend since the 2010 season, before preseason injuries in 2011 derailed his motorsport career.

What was more encouraging for the Milton Keynes outfit was the long-run pace on the SuperSoft which was consistently several tenths faster per lap than Mercedes and also more durable, which could make choosing strategy very interesting indeed.

Modi creating disaster in foreign policy: Rahul Gandhi
Without naming mining baron G Janardhan Reddy, Gandhi said the BJP has chosen corrupt people to campaign for the party. Helping the farmers - we have given Rs 8,000 crore to the farmers.

Max Verstappen averaged the quickest time in his Red Bull on a 1:22.666s.

"The Red Bulls are obviously very close to my pace so I think it's going to be relatively close between the top three teams".

"The mistake this morning was a costly one and I missed the final hour of the session because of it", Ricciardo said.

Robert Kubica completed his first practice session of the year with Williams and drove Sergey Sirotkin's vehicle to the 19th fastest time.

But he returned in the afternoon to finish a competitive second place, in front of teammate Verstappen.

It's hard to gauge where the drivers sit in the power rankings after the conditions played their part in Friday's practice, but the stakes will be a lot higher as qualifying gets underway on Saturday.

Stroll almost hit the tyre barriers after going off the track with about a half-hour left in the first session.

Watching the cars, however, you would have never known as blustery winds made conditions very hard for the drivers with many spinning or running off into the various gravel traps.

Brendon Hartley took a trip through the gravel at Turn 4 in his Toro Rosso and was followed soon after by Romain Grosjean in the Haas. Bottas and Vettel also spun but were able to continue their runs without significant damage.
