Communities in northeastern Arizona evacuated for Tinder Fire

Highway 87 remains closed Monday.

"We understand folks are anxious about their homes, but we're still in firefighting, engaged in these communities", fire operations manager Jeremy Human posted in a video online.

On April 27, the Tinder Fire began burning approximately 1.5 miles northeast of the Blue Ridge Reservoir in Coconino County.

The blaze initially was 500 acres less than five days ago.

Strong southwest winds pushed smoke from the fires into Colorado on Monday. The IMT reports that there is a potential for very active to extreme fire behavior with rapid rates of spread and moderate to long range spotting. Weather forecasters have warned the fire season will be risky and life-threatening.

Coconino County Sheriff's officials on Sunday ordered the immediate evacuation of Moquis Ranchettes, Starlight Pines, Clear Creek, Timber Ranch, Tamarron, Pine Canyon, Blue Ridge Estates, Ponderossa Pines and Mogollon Ranches.
