Bon Jovi and The Moodys have been eligible for the induction for quite some time now. TV and radio personality Howard Stern inducted Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi, one of the six acts getting inducted, dominated the ceremony, making it so that the event appealed more to the band's fans than to the fans of the other acts being inducted (Dire Straits, for example, who received very little stage time). That left Dire Straits' keyboardist Alan Clark, bassist John Illsley and keyboardist Guy Fletcher to deliver induction speeches without a presenter or a performance. Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard and guitarist Felicia Collins (who plays guitar in the Marie & Rosetta stage show) performed in honour of another 2018 inductee, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
