That problem stems from the company's unprecedented and largely unchallenged market reach. All the same, the level of questioning suggests that those in Congress lack in some cases even a basic understanding of how Facebook - or online services more broadly - work. It was then people took note of the face Facebook was using their camera and microphone. With the first hearing on Tuesday and the second on Wednesday, Zuckerberg confessed a variety of ways Facebook has misused user data.

Zuckerberg couldn't name a single competitor. Arguably, many of those products, from medicine to fuel, potentially put more Americans at greater risk than Facebook does. These days, the Lewiston High School grad is working for a small, nonprofit company called The Center for Humane Technology, which focuses on privacy issues and the idea that many social media platforms and other online services are created to be addicting. The CEO seems to admit that Facebook also tracks people who don't use this social networking site, but he claimed that they did that only for security purposes.

For now, investors also believe Facebook appears relatively unscathed with the company's shares trading relatively flat on Friday at $164.59.

The survey is counter to remarks made by Zuckerberg at his testimony in Washington this week, in which he said that there had not been a "meaningful" number of people who had deleted their Facebook account. Zuckerberg admitted that Facebook's data was used in the famous "Analytica scandal". If I post a photo on Facebook, I can choose whether it's visible to the public or to my friends or to a subset, a list of friends. Facebook knows a fair amount about you.

Officials found no skid marks to indicate sudden acceleration or braking, according to a search-warrant affidavit. Three children - Devonte, 15, Hannah, 16, and Sierra, 12 - remaining missing and are feared to be dead.

"No. Let me be clear on this: You're talking about this conspiracy theory that gets passed around that we listen to what's going on on your microphone and use that for ads", Zuckerberg replied. Stressing that there is an online propaganda "arms race" with Russian Federation and it was important to make sure no one interferes in any more elections including in India, Zuckerberg told Congress that his own personal data was "improperly shared".

This means that the next time you use the Facebook credentials to sign up for, or log in to, an app, you will not have to see the screen that wants you to accept the terms and conditions allowing the app to access Facebook data such as posts, photographs, age, etc.

"How can consumers have control over their data when Facebook does not have control over the data?" asked Congressman Frank Pallone of New Jersey at the beginning of the hearing. Zuckerberg told Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) that such an audit could take "many months", and that he expected to find "a handful" of breaches from other firms. Various news outlets, from CNN to The New York Times to BuzzFeed, have published reports highlighting just how much data Facebook has on its users.
