Tesla Defending Autopilot Feature Following California Fatal Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board said on Twitter that it's not clear whether the Tesla Model X was operating on its Autopilot program at the time of the crash. Tesla has never been punctual when delivering their products to buyers and the situation is a lot worse for the Model 3. During the same quarter in the previous year, the firm earned ($0.69) EPS. equities analysts expect that Tesla will post -15.15 earnings per share for the current year. Data from financial analytics firm S3 Partners indicates that Tesla stock is the second-biggest short among USA equities, with only Apple being larger.

The crash, investigated by USA authorities, adds to Chief Executive Officer Musk's challenges including concerns that the electric-car maker won't reach its production targets for the all-important Model 3 sedan.

Tesla, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and sells electric vehicles and energy storage products in the United States, China, Norway, and internationally. Stocks also fell sharply on Thursday and Friday on worries about President Donald Trump's trade policies, but those fears have receded somewhat in the last couple of days.

Tesla is also under scrutiny after the fatal crash of a Model X in California on Friday. The ambitious auto maker said it wasn't clear whether or not the cars autopilot mode was engaged before the accident.

Tesla's Autopilot team has suffered from leadership turnover over the past year and a half. Bloomberg's Model 3 production tracker estimates the company may be making about 975 of the cars a week, a far cry from the end-of-quarter target of 2,500 per week.

Tocqueville Asset Management L.P. decreased its holdings in shares of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) by 9.7% in the 4th quarter, according to the company in its most recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Tesla says that it hasn't been able to retrieve the vehicle's logs due to extensive damage to the vehicle. The company statement did not address if the crashed vehicle was in Autopilot mode, Reuters noted.

For now, they'll settle for something resembling a competitive team after the worst season in the program's 113-year history. Capel previously served as head coach at VCU and Oklahoma, taking both schools to the NCAA tournament during his tenure.

The Tesla blog post said Tesla battery packs were created to ensure that a battery fire spreads slowly in the rare circumstance it catches fire.

The NTSB can make safety recommendations but only NHTSA can order automakers to recall unsafe vehicles or fine automakers if they fail to remedy safety defects in a timely fashion. Tesla has often urged drivers to never take their hands off wheel when Autopilot is on.

"The following image shows what the barrier looked like when the crash attenuator was in proper condition, and what it looked like the day prior to the crash, based on dash cam footage from a witness of the accident who commutes daily past this location".

"This is the most negative sentiment I've seen in a while", Ben Kallo, an analyst at Baird, said Tuesday. That crash raised questions about the safety of systems that can perform driving tasks for long stretches but cannot completely replace human drivers.
