Richard Sherman called Raiders, but McKenzie said no cap room

Richard said, "What if I'm voted to the Pro Bowl and I can't go because we're in the Super Bowl?' We thought, He's right".

The story (published on a website for which Sherman wrote for a few years during his Seahawks career) reveals that after hammering out the basic details of the contract during a four-hour meeting on Saturday afternoon, Sherman called the Raiders and Lions - two other teams he had expected to visit after being released by the Seahawks on Friday - as well as the Seahawks.

During an interview with KIRO-AM, Sherman stated that the Seahawks were set to release him and thus, break apart what has been a vaunted defense for the Seahawks since 2012.

As spiteful as Sherman was toward the 49ers and Harbaugh for passing on him in the 2011 draft, he can now motivate himself by playing against the Seahawks twice a year and staying on his native West Coast.

No one knows for sure how Sherman's voice will represent this new era of 49ers football. The 10-year pro was due to make $6.5 million in salary, with a cap hit of $8.5 million. Days after signing a free-agent contract with the 49ers, Richard Sherman explained the impact Jimmy G had on his choice to take his talents to the Bay Area.

Tillerson cancels day's events in Africa due to illness
While the nature of the illness was not disclosed, it was understood not to be serious, the BBC reported. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has cancelled scheduled events in Kenya on Saturday due to illness.

Richard Sherman's tenure with the 49ers got off to a bumpy, chaotic start. It takes a troubling level of spite to actually wish misery upon someone you once loved, but I'm petty enough to hope that a once-significant other doesn't ever wind up more happy than me and the great thing about the fact that Sherman is in San Francisco is that there will be a way to keep score. It gives me the ability to control my destiny.

Sherman told The MMQB that the contract contains guarantees that roll over to the following year if he makes the Pro Bowl. I have skin in the game. A three-year deal was finalized over the weekend including a physical in which medical personnel signed off on Sherman's surgically repaired Achilles. John had already informed DeShawn that his contract was expiring after this year, and the Seattle Seahawks are just living up to their word. Sherman also had a cleanup surgery on his opposite ankle during the offseason. I couldn't feel secure in my contract.

Playing the Seahawks twice this season might give Sherman a taste of vengeance he craves.

"Neither side really wanted to walk away without a deal because we felt like there was a great relationship and great understanding and something that both sides would benefit from", he said on the conference call. Sherman said Schneider told him, "Incentives [are] a little rich for me".
