The UK Eurovision entry 2018 was confirmed on Wednesday with singer SuRie will be representing us in Portugal in May.

Once again, the BBC will use their show format Eurovision: You Decide, being previously used in the past two years.

She certainly knows her stuff musically.

The singer was crowned the victor of Eurovision You Decide on BBC2, and will now go on to fly the flag for the United Kingdom at the Grand Final with her track, Storm, in Portugal in May.

Graduating from the Royal Academy of Music, SuRie went on to do backing vocals for the likes of Coldplay's Chris Martin and former Pop Idol victor Will Young, and teaches at London's Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. "It's a dynamic combination of a more intimate, piano lead, singer-songwriter style start, building into this anthemic, soulful pop party".

"I can't believe this is happening, it's absolutely incredible", she said.

The former Les Miserables star beat off competition from five other entrants in a combined public and expert jury vote after a live performance of her track, Storm, at the BBC's Eurovision: You Decide 2018 televised event in Brighton. "I normally like to be left alone for a few moments so I can calmly collect my thoughts and ensure I'm on the right spot at the right time, singing the right lyrics and that I haven't forgotten to put clothes on..."

Six acts - including singers Jaz Ellington, Asanda, Raya, Liam Tamne and girl band Goldstone - competed for the chance to represent the United Kingdom.

How was SuRie selected to represent the UK?

The show is hosted by previous years' host Mel Giedroyc, being joined this year by Eurovision Song Contest 2015 victor Måns Zelmerlöw.

The victor was selected by a combination of the public vote and by a panel of industry experts who were at the Brighton Dome to dish out their verdicts.
