Ford says it worked to develop the new Ford Ranger Raptor in Australia, where the local Ford division that developed the T6 platform is based.

Ford has, at long last, pulled the wraps off of the brand-new, high-performance Ford Ranger Raptor pickup in Thailand, where Australia's supply of mid-size Ford trucks is built. Up front, the Ranger Raptor swipes the F-150's grille, replacing the blue oval with "Ford" in big block letters. Ford knew that if it was going to slap the Raptor name on the Ranger that people were going to treat it just as heinously as its big brother, so they put in another call to Fox. LED fog-lights and functional air curtain ducts have been added up front, along with two recovery hooks rated at 4.5 tonnes. Tests saw Ford engineers apply a 100kg load to the sliders a staggering 84,000 times to simulate 10 years of use. It stands 73.7 inches tall, 85.8 inches wide, and 212.5 inches long, with wider front and rear tracks at 67.3 inches. And since off-roading is what the Ranger Raptor was designed for, it features 32.5-inch approach, 24-degree ramp over, and 24-degree departure angles. Of course tray and passenger payload is included in any towing capacity claim anyway. Jaded? Maybe, but a smaller version of the Baja-conquering F-150 Raptor was too obvious not to happen - and anyway, we've known the truck has been in development for months now. That means sports seats covered in "technical suede", so, not suede at all... a dual stage cushion helps to keep the driver comfy while dialing out chassis vibration, according to Ford.

The Raptor's suspension is unique, from aluminium arms to twin rear dampers mounted nearer the wheels.

"To me, the most important thing now is that every human being in the world has access to a Raptor", Hameedi told us. If that's piqued your interest, then here are five facts about the new Ford Ranger Raptor that you need to know. The underlying frame uses different grades of high-strength low-alloy steel. What Ford is doing in the Ranger Raptor, though, deserves some extra attention. "From a driving dynamic fun standpoint, it is really an exceptionally special vehicle". "The Raptor is about the suspension and the chassis, and breaking the bank on the chassis..."

When it comes to the suspension, you'll find a coil arrangement out back for the solid axle, along with Position Sensitive Damping shock absorbers. Worst case, we might get an Ecoboost Ranger Raptor in the U.S. somewhat sooner than later.

The truck rides on all-terrain BF Goodrich 285/70 R17 tyres so it comes ready for the rock trails and dunes of the Middle East, which makes us pretty confident that this pick-up will eventually make its way to our region, otherwise Ford Middle East needs to catch a wake up. In August, a rendering used the best info available at the time to imagine the smaller Raptor's possible design, but Ford made the machine look even tougher than the team's artist could have ever expected. This protection works with the Ranger's existing engine and transfer case skidplates to provide protection to components such as the radiator, Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS), Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD), front cross-member, engine sump, and front differential.
