Trump Argues the Russia Investigation Is Hurting the US Government

Trump has repeatedly attacked the probe, and has falsely asserted that it has been proven that there was no collusion between Team Trump and Vladimir Putin's Russian Federation, including in a tweet on Wednesday.

The comment marks a departure from what Trump said last June, which is that he would be "100 percent" open to testifying in the Russian Federation investigation.

The president's legal team has anticipated that Mueller will request an interview with Trump at some point, a possibility that the special counsel's office and Trump's lawyers have have declined to comment about.

As has become routine, Trump fervently denied Wednesday that any collusion took place and described such a suggestion as "a phony cloud" that has hung "over this administration and our government".

President Donald Trump would not commit Wednesday to being interviewed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller as part of the Russian Federation investigation and called the prospect "unlikely", despite saying past year that he would be willing to speak with him.

In case you weren't counting - and I was - Trump uses the exact phrase "no collusion" seven times in that answer. The Justice Department which chose the special counsel is run by Trump's attorney general, Jeff Sessions.

"It has been determined that there is no collusion", Trump falsely stated, "and by virtually everybody", which is a total lie.

"I can only say this, there was absolutely no collusion", the President said, again making the case that the investigation was damaging the United States.

Mueller's investigation, as well as several House and Senate probes into Russia's election meddling, are still ongoing and have yielded no conclusive results.

"When they have no collusion, and nobody has found any collusion at any level, it seems unlikely you'd even have an interview", Trump pointed out.
