Powerball, Mega Millions jackpots swell to almost $800M

According to a Sunday news release from the Iowa Lottery, someone bought a Powerball ticket in Iowa worth $1 million.

The Powerball drawing is Wednesday for what will be the ninth largest jackpot in Powerball history.

Math still suggests buying a lottery ticket is a losing bet.

The Mega Millions drawing is set for Tuesday evening, while Powerball follows on Wednesday if there is no victor Saturday night. No one has hit the Mega Millions jackpot since October 13, 2017, while Powerball has not had a jackpot victor since October 25.

The biggest Powerball jackpot ever was a whopping $1.6 billion that was split three ways in 2016.

The winning numbers will be drawn Wednesday. Multipliers are available in all states offering the games except California, which bans the type of fixed prize payouts awarded by multipliers.
