A fire broke out in the City Civil and Sessions Court near the Fort campus of the University of Mumbai on Monday. The initial reports hadindicated there were no casualties in the fire since the actors andcrew members had safely exited from the premises.Akhilesh Singh, deputy commissioner of police (zone 7), said, "Wewere very much present during the cooling and dousing off the fireoperations were ongoing".
Although the studio had fire-fighting equipment installed, it was not functional, said fire officials. Eight fire engines and six water tankers were rushed to the spot. "We are trying our best to contain the flames", a fire official said.
After one hour of struggle, the fire was brought under control with no reports of mishappening in the incident.
The fire department received the call at 8:07 pm.
According to sources, well-known Hindi TV serials Bepanah and Haasil were being shot at the studio when the fire broke out. And on December 29, 14 people, mostly young women, were killed in a fire at a trendy rooftop pub in Mumbai's Kamala Mills complex. There were about 150 people trapped inside who were successfully rescued.
In yet another incident on January 4, four persons, including two children, were killed and five others seriously injured after an upper floor of a residential building in suburban Marol caught fire.
