According to the organisers, 87 of the top-earning 100 films a year ago were "sequels, remakes or rip-offs".

Transformers: The Last Knight led the field with nine when nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards were announced early Monday in Los Angeles.

Even Anthony Hopkins received a nomination for not just one but two of his roles this year (Collide and Transformers: The Last Knight). The formerly Oscar-buzzy mother! earned Worst Actress and Worst Director nominations for Jennifer Lawrence and Darren Aronofsky, respectively.

Other movies to get a flurry of nominations included The Mummy, Fifty Shades Darker, and The Emoji Movie.

Cruise's performance in the critically-panned reboot of the Egyptian monster movies also saw him named among the worst leading actors of the year, with Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) and Zac Efron (Baywatch), completing the roll of dishonor for male actors.

And Fifty Shades Darker's worst combo is "any combination of two characters, two sex toys or two sexual positions".

What if the Oscars... but bad? Comedic shortcomings aside, the clip only announces the nominees for Worst Picture, Actor, and Actress, though the full list has since been released (h/t USA Today).

Lawrence's competition for the "honor" include Katherine Heigl for "Unforgettable", Dakota Johnson for "Fifty Shades Darker", Tyler Perry for "Boo 2!: A Madea Halloween", and Emma Watson for "The Circle".

The star took the prize in good humour, attending the ceremony in person and handing out copies of All About Steve to the audience.

The Razzies will be awarded March 3, the day before the Academy Awards.
