Jane Fonda Criticized by Megyn Kelly Over Interview Complaints

Then she goes on to address Fonda's own past, "Hanoi Jane", and says she's in no position to talk about what's offensive. If you need a refresher, allow us to fill you in: while Fonda was promoting her film Our Souls at Night, Kelly decided it was a good moment to bring up the fact that Fonda had undergone plastic surgery.

Kelly went months without responding to Fonda's clear issue with the question, but ultimately chose to react to what she called Fonda's "poor-me routine" because Fonda won't let it go.

It was also joked about when Fonda and Lily Tomlin appeared last week on an earlier hour of "Today".

Or her "work", as Kelly referred to the 80-year-old Fonda's cosmetic surgery. She said she wanted to discuss the plight of older women in America. "I gave her a chance to empower other women - young and old - on a subject which she purports to know well, and she rejected it".

But I have no regrets about that question, nor am I in the market for a lesson from Jane Fonda on what is and is not appropriate.

Megyn continued, "This is a woman whose name is synonymous with outrage".

Fonda, who has been open about her beauty treatments in the past, later admitted she was taken aback by Megyn's "weird" line of questioning, insisting it was just "the wrong time and place".

Kelly ended the segment by saying that Fonda's "moral indignation is a little much." .

In a rather blistering segment addressing the audience on Monday's program, Kelly defended asking the legendary actress and activist in September about the work she's had done, noting she looked wonderful for her age (Fonda is 80). How "inappropriate" is it to ask about plastic surgery when you're talking to a woman who was promoting a film about aging? "The host said she'd grown tired of Fonda's "'poor-me' routine", and she insisted that Fonda can not have "an honest discussion" about aging without addressing her own surgeries.

Last week, Kelly reportedly shocked some NBC employees when she "congratulated" Kotb and asked her on the air about a "dark period" she went through 10 years prior to her being announced as Matt Lauer's replacement without first qualifying that it was because of a breast cancer diagnosis and a subsequent surgery. She called our POWs hypocrites and liars, and referred to their torture as "understandable". "I was stunned. It was so inappropriate", Fonda said about the question. Fonda responded, shooting Kelly a glare for the ages and a biting "well thanks".

His fierce missive only added fuel to an already blazing fire after it was revealed Kelly will be the only Today anchor not involved in NBC's Olympics broadcasts from South Korea.
