These two Apple iPhones were most searched globally on Google in 2017

Among the global elections section, French Election topped the list followed by German federal election, United Kingdom election, Uttar Pradesh election, Georgia special election and more.

You don't have to search far for that: it is Bollywood and cricket, says Google's 2017 Year in Search report for India. The top trending worldwide term was Hurricane Irma. Former NBC anchor Matt Lauer hit No. 2 overall and was the top person search in general.

The annual Year in Search analyzes Google Trends data to uncover "what the world was searching for". So popular search queries give us a good look into what people were thinking about over the past year. A number of other subjects of sexual misconduct allegations also made the Top 10 people list, including Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey and Bill O'Reilly.

The search engine released its figures from the year, which showed Hurricane Irma was the most searched category and Lauer came close in second place, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The actress announced her engagement to Prince Harry last month.

Google also unveiled the top trending search terms nationally. Other news stories that piqued people's interest were the solar eclipse and the price of the cryptocurrency bitcoin.
