(Even Armond White, the critic who ruined Toy Story 3's ideal score with a bad review in 2010, liked Lady Bird.) Gerwig responded to the good news, tellingRT, "that there has been such a warm reception is a dream come true". That honour was previously held by Toy Story 2. With so many reviews, even a critically beloved movie is bound to come up with at least one or two dissenters (or someone like Armond White, who believes it's his job to play the contrarian).
They weren't joking when they said "and counting", because it has since increased to 170, leaving a comfortable distance between Lady Bird and Toy Story 2. But though some smaller releases can gain a 100% rating through the minimum of five reviews (as was the case for the aforementioned Batman vs. Robin), there is a threshold for wide releases.
Prince Harry & Meghan Markle's Wedding WILL Be Televised!!
They will visit Nottingham, where Prince Harry started the Full Effect programme in 2014 through The Royal Foundation. The Queen has approved the venue, and the royal family will pay for the wedding.
"It's wonderful", Gerwig told Vanity Fair, adding that her younger brother had told her the news and even he was "slightly skeptical" that her film had beat the animated movie. For perspective, Citizen Kane, a film often mentioned in Greatest of All Time lists, is also at 100%, but with only 75 reviews. Lady Bird simply has the most positive reviews of any movie with a ideal, 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
This is completely unbelievable and so incredibly appreciated by the entire team that made Lady Bird. Rotten Tomatoes wields a power over audience perception of movies that is unprecedented, and while many a study has been conducted to prove that this doesn't extend to box office impact, that's likely not the case. Lady Bird is an independent critical darling and an authentic comic crowd-pleaser that truly earns its must-see status. It's well worth the hype.
