Israel shoots down Syrian drone approaching Golan Heights

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday affirmed joint efforts to stabilise Syria as its civil war wanes, including with the expansion of a July 7 truce in the southwestern triangle bordering Israel and Jordan.

"We have proved that before and we will prove it again in the future", Katz said. To put an end to the war, USA and Russian presidents met in Vietnam. If it hadn't been for the Russian air support, the Iranian militias wouldn't have expanded and wouldn't have survived defeat.

The leaders reaffirmed the importance of de-escalation zones as an interim measure to reduce violence in Syria and called upon all United Nations member states to increase their contributions to meeting humanitarian needs.

On Saturday, Israel shot down a Syrian unmanned aircraft that it said tried to infiltrate Israeli airspace from neighboring Syria.

A US State Department official said Russian Federation had agreed "to work with the Syrian regime to remove Iranian-backed forces a defined distance" from the Golan Heights frontier with Israel, which captured the plateau in the 1967 Middle East war.

Parker said other countries in the room, including Australia, were surprised by Canada's non-appearance at the talks. He said that he was "very happy" and an announcement would be made on Friday.

In September, Israel shot down an Iranian-made drone, sent by the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, in the same area. It saw a sectarian swamp in which Hezbollah and Iranian powers get involved with ISIS and thought that they must have lost a lot of fighters during the past three years.

Furthermore, Israel's Minister for Regional Cooperation Tzachi Hanegbi told reporters after the meeting that the truce deal "does not meet Israel's unequivocal demand that there will not be developments that bring the forces of Hezbollah or Iran to the Israel-Syria border in the north". Israel has also been providing medical treatment to the extremist militants wounded in Syria.

Israel, like other countries in the region, underestimated the Iranian infiltration into Syria. It fears Iran could use Syrian territory to stage attacks on Israel, or to create a land corridor from Iran to Lebanon that could allow it to transfer weapons more easily to Hezbollah. We see the Syrian government as responsible for any such violations, and we call on it to restrain the forces that operate in the area.

Satellite maps which have been recently published show how Iran is building a series of small military bases that extend from the suburbs in southern Damascus to Golan.

Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel viewed Saturday's drone incident gravely and would respond to any provocation.
