Donkeys jailed for destroying 'expensive' plants, Twitter reacts

The cheeky chaps were orignally detained for allegedly eating thousands of pounds worth of plants that were supposed to go outside the Urai Jail in the Jalaun district of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.

In a freakish criminal case, about half a dozen donkeys were "arrested" by the security guards of Orai District jail in Uttar Pradesh for grazing exotic plants under Swachch Bharat Mission outside jail complex. The owner of the animals, Kamlesh, said the horses and donkey were released on Monday evening. The BJP leader accompanied Kamlesh to police station and secured release of the donkeys.

RK Mishra, Head Constable stated to media that hese donkeys had destroyed some very expensive plants which our senior officer had arranged for planting inside jail and despite warnings, the owner let loose his animals here.

Yes, the UP police on Tuesday tweeted stating that it "has nothing to do with their (donkeys) arrest or custody". The incident happened at the Urail jail, were the eight donkeys had been in lock-up for four days. Donkeys were chained at an old house of the jailer within the jail premises.

"The animals not only ate plants, they ruined the entire garden and injured the children of the colony", jail superintendent Sitaram Sharma told PTI.

Their bail had been paid by a local politician from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), according to NDTV.

"I came here to get my donkeys released".
