After five beta releases, Apple today has finally released the first public version of iOS 11.1. Interestingly, Apple's note implies that it's necessary only for iPhone 7 models and later and for iPad Pro 9.7-inch and later iPad Pro models. You can only install it on certain iOS devices, like the iPhone 5S and later, the iPad Mini 2 and later, the iPad Air and later, and the sixth-generation iPod Touch. Getting back to the emoji for a second, if used in an email or text, the recipient of the missive must also have iOS 11.1 installed to see the image correctly. There are more than 70 new emoji included in iOS 11.1, including broccoli, a sled, a pie, a vampire, a hedgehog, a face with a monocle, a shushing face, and many more.

tvOS and watchOS have also been updated.

The 3D Touch option to open the app switcher view has also been restored having been previously removed from the original iOS 11 release.

Miscellaneous fixes and enhancements round out iOS 11.1's offerings: cleared Mail notifications should no longer appear on the Lock screen, using 3D Touch on the display edge should again invoke the app switcher, and some third-party Global Positioning System accessories should now provide better accuracy.
