What Gaydon also tells us is that the DB11 Volante features three-stage powertrain and chassis modes that team up with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

Like its coupe counterpart, the DB11 Volante features a single-piece aluminum hood.

Prices for the Volante start at £159,900 in the United Kingdom, €199,000 in Europe and $216,495 in the US. Aston Martin today unveiled the new DB11 Volante, and unlike its predecessor, it's V8 only.

The overall design and styling of the convertible mimics the coupe, except for the fabric roof of course. It takes just 14 seconds to lower and 16 seconds to close, and can be operated remotely from the key or on the move at speeds of up to 31mph. To pre-empt any snark about the water resistance of its convertible tops, Aston says it tested the roof mechanism for over 100,000 cycles in "special weather chambers" (which are probably way cooler in our imagination than in reality); apparently British engineering has come a long way.

If you're anxious about the lifespan of a cloth roof, don't worry, because Aston Martin put the DB11 Volante through some extreme weather testing.

The Pentagon also declined to comment specifically on reports of the potential breach, but spokesman Col. A ministry spokesman declined to confirm the report, citing intelligence matters.

The 0-100mph dash gets out of the way in 8.8 seconds and the auto will go on to a top speed of 187mph. For reference, the coupe is one tenth quicker to 62 and has the same electronically limited top speed.

"The challenge of creating a convertible vehicle is retaining structural and dynamic integrity".

Also helping to boost versatility, the DB11 Volante comes with ISOFIX attachment points in the rear seats for the first time, and boot space has been increased thanks to a clever fabric roof that allows for 20 per cent more cargo room. "To protect the former you need strength and rigidity, but to preserve the latter you need to keep weight to a minimum".

The DB11 Volante is powered by a new 4.0-litre twin-turbo 510PS V8 engine, and is built around the bonded aluminium structure first seen in the DB11 Coupe. The result is a truly magnificent auto.

Deliveries of the Aston Martin DB11 Volante in the US are scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2018 and will be priced from $220,385 including destination.
