Lone Fort Collins Shooting Survivor Undergoes Two Surgeries

Three people, including a female Colorado State University student, were killed in a shooting near the Fort Collins campus early Thursday.

Police have confirmed that one other victim was killed in the attack but the identity of that victim has not been released. Ave. just west of the college, with three of them dying.

The shooting happened just before 2 a.m.

Two of the people who were shot died: Tristian Kemp, 26, of Destin, Fla., and 22-year-old Savannah McNealy, a senior at CSU.

The Larimer County coroner's office says Savannah McNealy, of Fort Collins, was shot multiple times, and her death has been ruled a homicide.

Before the shooting occurred, William Fears claimed that only one side was responsible for violence when protests arise. One of the witnesses copied the Jeep's tag number and alerted authorities, who stopped the men shortly thereafter.

In an interview with the Denver Post, Fort Collins Police Chief Terry Jones said that the three victims had been dropped off by a cab at the apartments before the shooting. The suspect in the shooting is also dead.

Fort Collins Police told CBS4 all four were out together on McNealy's birthday, October 18. She also was a designer for CSU Life, a monthly campus publication. They were not affiliated with CSU. Responding officers found four people had been shot, including a person believed to be the suspect, police said. Many students and faculty live in the neighborhood.

A former CSU student by the name of Darren Rutz lives near the area and reported waking up by the sound of gunfire followed by a woman screaming, according to his interview with CBS Denver station KCNC-TV.

"Thinking of the type of person Tris was, my brother and I, you know we were thinking that Tris was trying to protect them - the girl - because that's the type of person he is", said Rian Unpingco.
