RIT now among the top 100 universities in the nation

For the second consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report has named the University of Louisiana Monroe a National University in its 2018 Best Colleges Rankings, which were released Tuesday, Sept. 12.

In this ranking, U.S. News asked top college officials to identify schools in their region that demonstrate innovative improvements in curriculum, faculty, students, campus life and technology. It is the 33rd annual list focusing on academic excellence.

The university's rise in the rankings came as KU has increased graduation rates in recent years.

The University of Tulsa finished first in the state at 87 in a three-way tie.

Recently, Texas A&M University has been ranked No. 4 - the only institution in Texas among the Top 20 - in Washington Monthly's rankings of the best universities in the country.

"It's is an honor to continue to be recognized for providing a world- class education and exceptional student experience", said Chancellor Pradeep Khosla. The University was again ranked No. 2 among top historically Black colleges and universities, or HBCUs. OSU is at 156 in a three-way tie.

Tulane is also ranked 24th among the "Most Innovative Schools". During the 2016-17 school year, Cornell held a rank of 90. Scores for each measure are weighted to determine a final overall score. "This is yet another great tribute to our faculty, staff, alumni and students on the great things happening here at Wesleyan". Oklahoma is one of 15 states in the West.

That list includes Vanderbilt, tied for 14th; University of Florida, tied for 42nd; University of Georgia, tied for 54th; Texas A&M, tied for 69th; Universities of South Carolina, Auburn and Tennessee, all tied for 103rd; University of Alabama, tied for 110th and University of Missouri, 120th.

Provost Kent Buchanan said OCU's standing reflects the university's commitment to providing high quality education and academic rigor.

Asia's leading university is Tsinghua University (10th) in Beijing, China, based on its high Employer Reputation score and a fantastic network of employer-student connections. The website boasts "nearly 50 different types of numerical rankings and lists to help students narrow their college search". It also held the No. 32 spot previous year. Separate lists, such as best liberal arts colleges, best-value schools and best undergraduate business programs, are also distributed. Last year's rankings are in parentheses.

The rankings focus on student outcomes - including graduation and retention rates - which carry the most weight at 30 percent. New this year: Postgraduate salary information.

BU remains one of the country's top schools for undergraduate engineering in this year's ranking.
