Secret Service: We don't have any Trump White House tapes

Last week, Comey testified in a Senate hearing that he believed he was sacked "because of the Russian Federation investigation".

A follow-up statement by White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer revealed no new details.

Conway also said Comey's testimony showed President Donald Trump was not under investigation.

This, Comey says, spurred him to leak the content of one of his memos documenting his conversation with Trump to a reporter, through an intermediary.

Whatever the case, we'll probably find out soon - the House Intelligence Committee has requested that the White House confirm whether it has any tapes of the president's conversations with Comey, and to produce them if they do exist.

After President Donald Trump posted a tweet warning former FBI Director James Comey of any possible tapes of their conversations, the secret service made it clear on June 12 that they were not in possession of any tapes or transcripts of said interactions.

After Trump again intimated last week that he could have recorded his controversial discussions with fired Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, it remained unclear if that claim was true.

Richard Nixon's staff installed a voice-activated system that automatically recorded everything said in the Oval Office because the former president, who was bad with technology, was uncomfortable manipulating the buttons on a tape recorder.

The Journal filed a Freedom of Information Act request for any audio or written transcripts of Trump's conversations.

Since then, the White House has refused to clarify whether such tapes exist. He's "just having a little fun", this person said of Trump's tape antics. Psychologists say that there is a perfectly reasonable explanation for that - and you can blame it all on President Trump.

Personal anecdote: Candidate Trump once said he had taped a call with me, after disputing how he was quoted.

Trump took to Twitter in May to hint at the existence of "tapes" of his conversations with former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, who said he had taken memos detailing potentially illicit comments made by the president in private meetings between the two.

Trump kept the door open to the existence of tapes when he spoke to reporters Friday in the Rose Garden.

There's another odd aspect to all of the back-and-forth about Trump's multiple conversations with Comey: The president apparently never inquired about the substance of the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

Trump added that people would be disappointed with the answer.
