We'll find out if it was worth the wait in just a few months.

Sonic Mania's release date has been confirmed thanks to the official Sonic the Hedgehog Twitter account. The trailer was released to announce that digital pre-orders for the game are now available, though the announcement of the release date is better still.

Macron says Trump handshake was 'moment of truth'
After some friendly chatter, the two gripped each other's hands so tightly before the cameras that their jaws seemed to clench. Trump looks on as his French counterpart double kisses German Chancellor Angela Merkel and shakes hands with other leaders.

Sonic Mania is set to release on August 15, 2017 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Sega has assembled a "supergroup" of developers for Sonic's most recent foray into the second dimension including Christian "Taxman" Whitehead, Headcannon, and PagodaWest Games.

"Experience the ultimate celebration of past and future in Sonic Mania, an all-new 2D Sonic adventure running at a crisp 60FPS with stunning HD retro-style graphics", says Sega (via Gematsu). People can play alone as Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. "Welcome to the next level for the world's fastest blue hedgehog!" The game's Collector's Edition, which will be available only in North America for $69.99, is available for pre-order at various retailers while supplies last. To celebrate the announcement, we're treated to a brand-new trailer. Thankfully, one of Sega's past pieces of gameplay footage focuses on Knuckles making a run through the updated version of the Flying Battery Zone, giving a good look at the character's capabilities in the new game.
